THEIR STORY
HOW THEY MET
Debbie and Arun were introduced by mutual friends but didn't hit it off right away romantically. They did become great friends, however, and started dating a few months later.
BRIDE'S PROFESSION
VP, Director of Marketing
GROOM'S PROFESSION
Head of West Coast Sales for a technology company
LENGTH OF ENGAGEMENT
7 months
THE PROPOSAL
In December 2003, Arun gave Debbie flying trapeze lessons at the San Francisco Circus School for my birthday. Unbeknownst to her, he was already plotting the proposal.

During their last lesson, the only people there were the the three coaches, Debbie, and Arun. Because Debbie had pneumonia the week prior, she wasn't quite up to her game, and failed my "catches" three times in a row. On the last one, she landed again in the net, and her coach yelled, "It's okay, Debbie. I hear from Arun that you're a really great catch."

She laughed, and climbed down the ladder to find Arun standing on the floor below, with the ring in his hand.
THE GOWN
A bias-draped ivory, embroidered chiffon by Elizabeth Fillmore. While the dress is one of Elizabeth's standard designs, Debbie and Arun met her at a trunk show and asked her to customize it. Elizabeth happily agreed and added beading that was done by hand in India and shipped back to the U.S. just in time for the wedding.
NUMBER OF GUESTS / ATTENDANTS
70
THE CAKE
A white cake with caramel mousse filling and white frosting, decorated with candy boats, planes and cars. The cake topper was designed by a local artist and featured caricatures of the couple, their four dogs and their cat to ensure it was very personal. They also had chocolate cupcakes, because they're fun and Debbie and Arun love them. They, too, were decorated with the candy vehicles.
FIRST DANCE SONG
Night and Day by Frank Sinatra
THE MENU
A broad selection from Le Colonial's French Vietnamese menu. The many options included meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes to satisfy the wide tastes of their guests.
WHAT MADE THE DAY UNIQUE
Everything! Arun and Debbie were married in a very public location so their wedding was witnessed by all kinds of people. A huge picnic group even toasted them with Coronas and cheered as they walked back down the aisle and out of the amphitheater!

No part of their wedding was typical; from the photobooth, to the kites, to the dogs walking down the aisle and place cards made to look like boarding passes -- they even gave away travel toothbrushes engraved with their names and wedding date as party favors. They did what they could to ensure everything was representative of their quirky brand of fun.
HONEYMOON DESTINATION
Bali, Indonesia
THE WEDDING
The location of the ceremony, Chrissy Field, actually used to be an airfield in World War II. With views of the bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, and downtown San Francisco, it seemed idyllic. Debbie and Arun also spent a lot of weekend there with their dogs, flying kites. (They even handed out kites after the ceremony so guests could amuse themselves during the pictures.)

Le Colonial was the site of one of their very first dinner dates, and is their favorite restaurant in the city.

The music was equally quirky with nothing traditional about it -- they walked together, with the dogs, up the aisle to a string quartet playing "Fields of Gold" and the recessional music was "We're Gonna Do It Our Way" from the Laverne and Shirley show
