THEIR STORY
HOW THEY MET
We met at the gym. John and I used to stare at each other through the glass door as I worked in a small chiropractic office in the back of the gym and he'd work out equipment in front of the door. One day he got the nerve and called the number on the door to our office. He didn't know my name, so his pick up line was "Hi are you the tall slender Polynesian girl?" There were two of us that worked there, and he wanted to make sure he was speaking to the right girl. To say the least, it was a weird first call, but he did something right, as we've been together since!

THE PROPOSAL
John knew that my favorite times of day were sunrise and sunset. He planned a whole day of surprises on my birthday. He took me out on a hot air balloon ride in the early morning followed by a wonderful lunch. From there we went on a horseback ride through the beautiful country side and we ended at sunset near the beach. He got off the horse and proposed to me and asked me to spend every sunrise and sunset with him. When we got home there was a surprise party with 30 of our friends and family. The was beautifully decorated with Japanese lanterns and he had sushi waiting, which is my favorite! We lit a fire in the backyard pit and drank champagne until 3am.
THE GOWN
For the ceremony, I wore my grandmother's Vintage Gown from 1936. For the ceremony I wore an Alfred Sung strapless gown with sheer chiffon overlay with flower and diamond beading and a 2" tiered ruffled bottom.
NUMBER OF GUESTS / ATTENDANTS
130 guests, 5 bridesmaids, 5 groomsmen, 1 ring bearer and 1 flower girl
THE THEME
We chose the church as it was the same church my grandparents were married in 71 years prior. They were married for 58 years before passing away. We went with the vintage theme, hair, jewelry, and color scheme.
THE CAKE
We went with a dessert buffet as we are huge fans of sweets and couldn't decide on just one dessert. We had decadent cookies, home baked mini cupcakes, jumbo strawberries with Schargenburger chocolate. We had pumpkin, lemon, key lime and raspberry cheesecakes. The cake we cut and served to each other was a chocolate cake with a photo of our puppies on the top as a cake topper. Months prior I dressed our dogs up in a bride and groom costume and they were kissing. We had it made into our cake topper. We love our puppies and wanted to include them in the day.
CULTURAL TRADITIONS
-Melissa is Italian and they got married in North Beach's Italian capital! -Melissa was born and raised in Hawaii and performed a surprise hula dance for John at the reception. -The parents from Hawaii supplied fresh leis were presented to the groom at the end of the dance. -Brides father surprised us during dessert with a performance. He learned a song on a ukulele and sang along while playing. -Our uncle from Louisiana brought his accordion and played a cajun song. -We did the Hawaiian money dance, where the guests put money on the bride and groom in funny areas and they have to take the money off each other with their mouths, not using their hands.
FIRST DANCE SONG
Hopelessly Devoted to You by Olivia Newton John
THE MENU
-Tri Tip with Mushroom Marinade -Chicken Breast stuffed with Spinach & Ricotta and Scallions -Ravioli Casear Salad
