THEIR STORY
THE PROPOSAL
Nate proposed on New Year's Eve in the aerial tram up to Sterling Vineyards.
THE GOWN
For the ceremony, Ami wore a traditional red and gold lehenga studded with crystals, made in Ahmedabad, India. For the reception she wore a magenta chiffon lehenga with gold and silver threaded handwork, studded with green and white crystals, made in Ahmedabad, India
NUMBER OF GUESTS / ATTENDANTS
300 guests, 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen
THE THEME
They wanted the wedding to be traditional, complete with a Bharat procession that included a horse drawn-carriage and dhol player; classic wedding attire; shenai music during the bridal entrance; and all of the essential elements of a colorful Hindu wedding ceremony. The wedding traditionally takes place in the bride's hometown. Since Ami was born and raised in San Francisco, the heart of San Francisco's financial district was the perfect place. They wanted the decor of the reception to have warm Indian touches including a vibrant color scheme, intricate Rajasthani tablecloths, a Lord Ganesha ice sculpture at the entrance, Hindu statues, lots of candles, and small silver bowls from India etched with their names and wedding date as gifts to guests. They chose the Bently Reserve Building because of the majestic marble pillars and floors, as well as the parallel spiral staircases leading from a high balcony where they made their reception entrance to the beating of a dhol.
THE CAKE
White, three-flavored cake with mehndi patterns. The Mehndi patterns designed by the bride's mehndi artist Ravie Kattaura.
CULTURAL TRADITIONS
Traditional Hindu wedding with Bharat procession through downtown San Francisco. Aarti ceremony by bride's family to welcome the groom and family at the front entrance.
