reception: transition / from ceremony to reception
The time between the ceremony and the start of the reception is critical whether you are having the two events at different locations or at the same site, since the key factor is to keep the event "flowing" and your guests comfortable and happy.

If your wedding is at a church or synagogue, and your reception at a hotel or restaurant, it is important that either a wedding coordinator, appointed individual, or adequate signage greets and directs your guests to the cocktail or reception area. If you are having the ceremony and reception in the same facility, this rule still holds true.

People must be directed to the next area of the celebration, so that they feel welcomed and constantly engaged in the festivities to come. Whether your party will start with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the terrace, moving indoors for the formal meal and dancing, or the entire celebration is held in the same room, make sure there is adequate space for your guests to be received and served while they await your arrival.
